Picture a professional golfer preparing for the next tournament . . . out on the practice tee this athlete is practicing and learning. How does the learning occur? He or she hits ball after ball after ball. The primary feedback for improving the swing is the flight of each ball. Through experimentation, effort and feedback, the swing gets better. A blindfolded golfer on the practice tee wouldn't learn very much.

The main purpose of the VBL survey is to support the continued development of managers as leaders.

VBL Survey Implementation, is like the flight of the ball for the golf pro - it provides vital feedback. And the supporting materials are designed to help managers use that feedback to improve.

People who participate in this process receive three documents and a feedback session to help them create and implement a Leadership Development Plan:

• The Values-based Leadership Survey Report summarizes each manager's survey results. It includes color graphics.
• The Leadership Development Planning Sheets are designed to help participants organize the results of the survey into specific leadership development activities.
• The Values-Based Leadership Guide Book provides a review of the actual survey statements as well as the leadership skills in the Values-Based Leadership system. Participants use it as a reference.
• There is a VBL Survey Feedback Session from Kelly Gerling. He helps participants interpret the survey and create a leadership development plan. Participants are encouraged to go over their survey results with their boss and together, they further refine the leadership development plan.
